Talaat is a new graduate student. He is presently training in molecular dynamics in order to develop accident-tolerant ceramic coating for zirconium cladding in PWRs. In addition to MD simulations of this amorphous ceramic coating and the comparison to experimental measurements, we plan to use state of the art capabilities to investigate the effects of this coating on the neutronics of a PWR and the performance a nuclear fuel rod during nominal operation and in design basis accidents, such LOCA.
