Education

  • B.S. Nuclear Engineering, Jordan University of Science and Technology (JUST), July 2021
  • Graduate student working toward M.S. Nuclear Engineering, University of New Mexico

Ahmad Shaheen is a Fulbright scholar from the Kingdom of Jordan and is persuing a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering at The University of New Mexico with the Institute for Space and Nuclear Power Studies. Ahmad's research is focused on investigating applying Machine Learning / Deep Learning (ML/DL) algorithms to train artificial neural networks for autonomous control of nuclear reactors. His research has applied both reinforcement learning and supervised learning paridigms to train neural networks for reactor control of the Very Small, Long-Life, and Modular (VSLLIM) Microreactor developed at ISNPS. The trained neural networks are integrated into real-time control software to investigate remote control of the VSLLIM microreactor.
